Rusty Pilot Ground School

This course is for you if you have been away from flying for more than a few years, or even if you are “current” but not very “proficient” with your skills.

No books are required, but if you wish to purchase an up to date copy of a CFS, AIM, FTGU, or other printed material (charts etc) we can order them in for you with enough advance notice and for an extra fee.

Though there is no requirement from Transport Canada for doing a course like this, it is highly recommended if you have been away from the cockpit  for a while. Taking the Rusty Pilot Ground School will meet the recency requirements set out by TC at the 2 yr level. If it’s been more than two years, we can do a flight review with you as well to meet the 5 yr recency level.

Some of the topics will include:

  • Being up to speed on standard phraseology (things change occasionally)
  • Airspace review
  • Review of reading and interpreting weather (METAR, TAF, GFA, PIREP)
  • Cross border flights
  • Integrating GPS into your flights
  • Radio management (what do all those knobs do exactly?)
  • Discussing the difference between recency and proficiency
  • Flight planning
  • Using tablets and smart phones in the cockpit
  • And much more…

We run this ground school over two consecutive Saturdays (8:30-12:30 each day) giving you a total of 8 hours of instruction. Our per hour rate would normally bring this training to $200, but this course is offered for only $150 per person. Coffee and pastries provided…

Also, we will run this for as few as two interested pilots, so grab a friend and contact us today to find out when the next course will be…
